at Chedi Luang is a Buddhist temple of historical importance located in the center of Chiang Mai, Thailand. It was built in the late 14th century and has been an important place of worship for centuries. The temple walls are adorned with elaborate carvings and are renowned for their magnificent architecture. Wat Chedi Luang also houses some of Thailand’s most revered relics, including Buddha statues, ancient manuscripts, and artifacts from many eras of Thai history.
Visitors to Wat Chedi Luang can expect to be awed by its magnificence as soon as they walk through the entrance gate guarded by four huge pillars topped by legendary creatures. Inside are several chedi (stupas), originally dedicated to King Saen Mueng Ma, who reigned over Chiang Mai from 1385 to 1401 A.D., but which have since become home to many other statues representing various Buddhas, such as Phra Sri Sakyamuni or Siddharta Gautama, the founder of Buddhism, whose 30-meter-high statue stands today in one of these chedi!
The park also has two wiharns or prayer halls where visitors can pay their respects to their loved ones by viewing the beautiful murals depicting scenes from Buddhist mythology painted on each wall; not to mention the meticulously carved stucco figurines that adorn each area! If you are looking for a truly extraordinary experience in northern Thailand, be sure not to miss this wonderful cultural relic, Wat Chedi Luang!
